There are only 12 models of Cylons. If that makes no sense to you whatsoever, you've missed out on the updated version of the old (and woefully dated) show Battlestar Galactica. Catch up with your sci-fi loving friends with Battlestar Galactica - Season 1, a show that defies the conventional wisdom that television needs to pander to the deeply unintelligent. It's smart, moves at a breathtaking pace, and doesn't rely on CGI and other... more

The ice and snow storms that left travelers stranded and folks without electricity this winter may have you thinking of tropical destinations. Go the cheap route and experience the sounds of Brazil with Tropicalia 2, a collection of songs by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. If you make an annual resolution to read something more substantial than celebrity gossip magazines (ah, sweet guilty pleasure!), start with this Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Wallace Stegner. Angle of Repose chronicles the lives of an American family through four generations. At 500+ pages, it's hefty enough to make you feel a sense of accomplishment when you finish it, but once you get into it, it's so involving you'll be surprised at how easily... more

We're not huge fans of Lost (we've only seen a few episodes) but half the people we work with are obsessed with it and want the world to know that Lost - The Complete Fourth Season is now out on DVD. The first sites we look at each morning - before mySimon, even - are dailypuppy.com and cuteoverload.com. The latter is a "nonstop parade of utter cuteness," which Time magazine calls its "#1 mood lifter." We're giving our grandmothers (who still aren't online) the 2009 Cute Overload calendar, which is loaded with pages of wiggly nosed bunny rabbits, fuzzy chicks, snuggly squirrels, roly-poly hamsters, baby pandas, the occasional hedgehog, and, of... more

If you grew up with Pat the Bunny (or read it to your kids), you'll appreciate this new parody book called Pat the Husband. The book is just as interactive as the classic: You can remove the Velcro pants from the husband and put them on the wife, pull a tab to make the husband nod his head in agreement, and more. Wrap this one up with the Porn for Women 2009... more

We learned about this 2009 Sarah Palin calendar in this Wall Street Journal article. The calendar features 50 never-before-seen photographs of Palin (as governor and VP candidate) and her family. The photographer, Judy Patrick, a Palin friend and former Vice Mayor of Wasilla, admits to making the calendar because she needs money for a down payment on a condo in Anchorage. High School Musical 3: Senior Year - which conveniently reduces to "HSM3" for texting! - comes out Friday, but you can get the HSM3 soundtrack right now, so you can rehearse the songs and then annoy everyone else in the theater. The soundtrack has all new music by the original songwriters and performances by the original cast, and it comes with a ring tone, fold-out poster, and "unlock more rock" content. We're not entirely... more

This weekend we saw one of the best live performances we've seen in years, that of "gypsy punk" band Gogol Bordello, featuring guitars, violin, accordion, Latin percussion, and spastic frontman Eugene Hutz, who co-starred in Everything is Illuminated, and who is partially to blame for the return of the hipster mustache. But we forgive him for that because his band, which is made up of musicians from all over the world, is... more
